2023/2024 Scholarship Winners

As a member of the NZ Firefighters Welfare Society you have access to 17 different Membership Benefits. One of these is the Scholarship Benefit, which pays a $500 financial contribution (per winner) towards members children’s education costs.

With living costs constantly rising, the Society is committed to easing the financial burden on firefighters and their families. Education Scholarships cover a portion education expenses, including uniforms and stationery. They can alleviate some of the stress on family budgets and allow precious household funds to be redirected to other essential needs or to savings.

The process of applying for a scholarship can also be a highly rewarding experience for children. By encouraging them to think about who inspires them and what they wish to do when they leave school, it offers valuable opportunities for creativity and personal growth.

Once per year entries are invited for the Scholarship Benefit and taking part is very easy. We simply ask for a piece of artwork or an essay about what your child would like to do when they leave school, and to tell us who inspires them.

Entries are judged in three separate age groups: 5-8, 9-12, and 13-16 and there is $1,500 in prizes to be won per region.

We had some great entries this year. Below is a selection of work from this year’s winners of the Scholarship Benefit.

Are you familiar with all the benefits of your membership? As a member of the NZ Firefighters Welfare Society, you have access to our holiday homes across the country as well as NZ Police homes and NZ Army Centres. You can claim financial and other assistance for unexpected (or expected) surprises, like the birth of a baby or adoption, funeral expenses, counselling, home help, ambulance transport costs, hearing aids … the list goes on. See Welfare Support here.

With one membership covering you, your spouse/partner and your children (up until their 19th birthday), the NZ Firefighters Welfare Society offers fantastic value for money. Think of it as your rainy day fund for when life throws you a curve ball.

Plus! As a member of the NZ Firefighters Welfare Society, you are also eligible to join Healthcare99 for an extra cost. Healthcare99 helps you to meet medical costs such as: surgery (up to $60,000 per operation), specialist care, cardiac care, cancer care, and major diagnostics. You can claim $500 per person per 12-month period with the Wellness Benefit, plus much more. See what you can claim with Healthcare99 Option A, and Option B, or take a look at the pamphlet here.
