We’re pleased to announce that Bill Swan has been re-elected as Chair of the NZ Firefighters Welfare Society for another four-year term. This marks a strong vote of confidence from the members in his leadership, vision, and dedication to the NZ Firefighters Welfare Society’s mission of firefighters helping firefighters and their families.
Since taking on the role in January 2021, and being formally appointed in March of that year, Bill has led the organisation through a period of significant transformation and renewed purpose. His first term has been defined by the successful implementation of the NZ Firefighters Welfare Society’s strategic plan and a deep commitment to evolving the way we support our members.
A Strong Foundation, A Clear Vision
Under Bill’s leadership and backed by a small but dedicated office team, the NZ Firefighters Welfare Society has remained focused on meeting the needs of our members in an ever-changing world.
The strategic plan, developed by the Board, has been the guiding document through a time of exciting change. His steady hand has helped steer the NZ Firefighters Welfare Society as we’ve modernised operations, improved our member services, and reconnected with the core values that inspired the founding of the NZ Firefighters Welfare Society over 35 years ago.
During the past four years, the organisation has made measurable progress. Some highlights include:
- The successful confirmation and implementation of the five-year strategic plan.
- A full organisational review and restructure, aligning resources for maximum impact.
- A new model for marketing and administration, streamlining operations
- The launch of the largest member survey in our history, helping us shape future direction.
- The continued modernisation of our popular holiday home network.
- Strengthening the role of station reps and enhancing our outreach efforts.
- Streamlined systems to ensure we reach firefighters in need more effectively.
- New and improved member discount offerings and online access systems.
Looking Ahead
Bill’s re-election ensures continuity and momentum as the NZ Firefighters Welfare Society enters the next phase of its journey. The next four years will be focused on building on our achievements so far and exploring additional ways we can serve our members – both existing and new so as to ensure the Society is ‘fit for purpose” well into the future. With ongoing input from our members and the dedication of our board, staff, and volunteers, the future of The NZ Firefighters Welfare Society is in capable hands.
As Chair, Bill will continue to work alongside the Board and management to ensure the NZ Firefighters Welfare Society remains fit for purpose and relevant to the needs of firefighters and their families throughout New Zealand.
